Why the sudden change in heart for the USA? Why now really, after all these decades on constant punishment?

First, it's important to understand the history of sanctions in Zimbabwe. The country has been under some form of EU and USA sanctions since the early 2000s, when the government began to engage in land reform policies that were seen as controversial and illegal by some foreign governments. This led to the imposition of targeted sanctions on individuals and businesses affiliated with the government.

These sanctions have had a significant impact on the country's economy, making it difficult for businesses to operate and leading to a decline in foreign investment. Sanctions have also had an impact on the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans, as they have led to higher prices for essential goods and a decrease in the availability of certain products. In addition, sanctions have affected the ability of the government to access loans and credit from international institutions, making it difficult to finance development projects. Despite these challenges, the government of Zimbabwe has continued to push for the lifting of sanctions, arguing that they are ineffective and have a negative impact on the population.

Some countries, including South Africa, have called for an end to sanctions, but others, such as the United States, have maintained their stance. However, a shift in change of heart in 2024 has foreseen the United States lifting sanctions for the Zimbabwean nation, maybe more is still yet to come from the EU as well in terms of removal.
